PHILIP ELIJAH LUGO

WHO ARE YOU? WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

My name is Philip Lugo. I’m a passionate creative born (1993) and raised in Brooklyn, New York where I currently still reside.

JOB TITLE:

Philip Lugo, Owner/Fabricator/Consultant

WHAT IS CRAFT WOODWORK NYC?

Craft Woodwork NYC is a custom fabrication shop established in 2019 and located in the Bronx, NY. The type of projects we’ve taken have ranged from building custom dressers to full size music studio renovations.

ABOUT ME:

‘How you do anything is how you do everything.’

I found my way into the creative realm at a young age. Gifted with a gentle touch from my mother and ingenuity from my father, I organically locked focus on growing as a craftsman and manifesting my artistry in various mediums.

Laguardia H.S. presented me with a unique opportunity, beginning my journey as a theatrical carpenter. The facilities, tools and scene shop I had access to were advanced for a high school environment. By age seventeen, in 2010, I completed my first bit of professional carpentry work building scenery for the New York City Opera @ Lincoln Center.

UNCSA expanded my potential and solidified my skillsets. During college, I spent my free time working in New York mainly as a carpenter/welder. In that free time, I built/worked on these productions: Lion King Australia, Tokyo and Mexico City, Aladdin London and U.K., Aladdin on Broadway, Tony Awards (2014), ESPN Live, Matilda 1st National Tour, Trip of Love, Mickey and The Wondrous Book, Peter and The Starcatcher, ABC 20/20, and The Marvel Avengers Exhibit at Madame Tussauds 42nd St.

After transitioning out of the academic setting in 2015, I had my mind set on experiencing it all. I had been steadily working as a fabricator in New York’s Arts and Entertainment scene for a few years. Ready for a change, I left the United States with my first tour in 2017 and am currently working full time for Disney’s The Lion King Rafiki North American Tour.

In 2019, my childhood desires of having my own shop started to take precedent again. After years of using my gifts in entertainment, I took all of my cumulative experience and started Craft Woodwork NYC. Since then, its been a process filled with learning, growth, craftsmanship and most importantly, creation.
